A Gorilla Family: Brothers Join Sister at Pittsburg State University

Pittsburg State University prides itself on the transformation experiences students have here. Many students are excited to tell their family and friends who are not at Pitt State news about their classes, extra-curricular activities, and life in general at Pitt State.

For Yashvi Lambasiya, a senior in Biology from India, telling her family about her experience at PSU was not enough. She wanted them to experience Pitt State, for themselves.

She was struck by Pitt State’s welcoming community and supportive staff, and wanted her brothers to join her here.

“I was the first one to get here and after living here for a year this place felt like home to me,” Yashvi said. “The international office has always been a great support and also I loved the University and what better opportunity for my brothers than to stay with me and simultaneously enjoy this beautiful place.”

PSU Alumnus Publishes Music Education Book for Early Beginners and Children in Special Education
Pittsburg State University alumnus Erman Trukili, of Turkey, published a book last month that is available worldwide. Turkili, who graduated from PSU with a Master of Music in 2007, is a perfect example of the outstanding alumni that Pitt State graduates.

Turkili’s book, “First Steps of a Little Artist”, applies his unique teaching method that uses symbols and colors to teach piano. His book, which is being sold at prestigious sites such as Boosey and Hawkes and Music Exchange, is designed for very early beginners and children in special education.

Turkili said that his time at Pitt State helped set him on the path that has led to his success.

“Pitt State opened doors for me to continue my academic and artist career in US,” he said. “One might think that PSU is a small university of a small town. It has a quite strong academic excellence which helped me to shape my life both as an academic and as an artist.”

Pitt State Receives Four Students for MBA Dual Degree Program
Pittsburg State University has an agreement with three partner universities to offer an MBA Dual Degree Program. Students in the program divide up their studies and complete one year at their home institution, then complete their last year at Pittsburg State University to earn two degrees-one from each institution. Pitt State both sends and receives students for the program.

This semester, PSU received four students from each partner university as part of MBA Dual Degree Programs. Netty Bathily and Thomas Detony have come from La Rochelle International Business School in La Rochelle, France; Maxime Gelly has come from Montpellier Business School in Montpellier, France; and Hsiang-Tzu Wang has come from National Taipei University of Business in Taipei, Taiwan.

Participating in a Dual Degree program has many benefits for students.

“A program like this allows you to first develop your English skills, get an international degree, or even the opportunity to work in the United States,” Gelly said.
